Brooklynites came out in force on Sunday to cheer on more than 50,000 runners as they raced through the borough for the 48th New York City Marathon. The route included 12 miles stretching from Bay Ridge to Greenpoint, and bystanders were ready with hand-made signs, cowbells and shouts of encouragement.
The crisp fall morning brought Brooklynites to their stoops, rooftops and along the police taped-sidelines while live bands, choirs and bake sales kept the party spirit alive.
Photographers pro and amateur were busy documenting the day, with shots both inspirational and amusing. After looking through scores of images, here our Instagram picks from along the Brooklyn route.
