Brooklyn Heights is getting a new wine shop. As the Brooklyn Heights Blog noted yesterday, a liquor application has popped up in the window of 60 Henry Street under the applicant name of Dumbo Wines. It’s nice to see that something’s going to happen in one of these empty storefronts. Think a wine store will have a good shot here? GMAP

  1. I have lived in the Heights a long time and I don’t go to Towne liquors if I can possibly help it. It’s over-priced and kind of gross.
A new, attractive, user-friendly wine store will do very well here like the one on Montague Street that has been very successful and has a real following. The key is good service and careful selection.

  2. They are so beautiful, in fact, that tenants come and go on this strip faster than I go through a box of tissues.

Perhaps because the business owners don’t walk around the neighborhood to realize there’s another wine store within spitting distance.

  3. “These are beautiful Art Deco storefronts recently restored with that green/black marble. Very fine.”

A bit delusional with this one – aren’t the loose stool inducing Great Wall and a low-end nail salon also blessed with this very fine art deco storefront?

Too much retail, not enough people.

  4. I’m glad to see something go in these storefronts, but really, another wine store? Michael Townes is overpriced, but we don’t need another place to buy wine. What we do need is more restaurants!

  5. This is Cranberry and Henry, you are quite correct that this is not DUMBO. A wine store here with a good selection and good service will do great business. These are beautiful Art Deco storefronts recently restored with that green/black marble. Very fine.
