A reader clued us in to a new subway entrance coming to the A-C-G Hoyt-Schermerhorn line in Downtown Brooklyn. The entrance will be at the new building at 230 Livingston, which backs up to 219-225 Schermerhorn. (Looks like the entrance will be on Schermerhorn.) It’s still boarded up for now, though. GMAP

  1. I don’t see the point of adding any more entrances to Hoyt-Schermerhorn without reconfiguring the mezzanine, since there is only one fare control area.

The entrance on Flatbush outside of Modell’s leads to the south end of the 2/3/4/5 station – you can see the passageways and staircases from the end of the platforms.
There was an entrance here that led to an underpass connecting the 3 platforms, but it has been closed for a very long time.

As part of the AY project, the passageway will be re-opened, along with a large new entrance on the Arena block and a new passageway to the Q/B platform.
The entrance outside of Modell’s will still just be an emergency exit.

  2. There was an old subway entrance open on Flatbush the other day – outside Modell’s across from Atl. Yds. My guess is that it would’ve led to the R part of that station. Would be nice to have it back.

  3. That’s a shame to add a new entrance only on Schermerhorn. Both existing entrances are on that same side of the block. There used to be a tunnel over to one of the department stores on Livingston/Fulton, so that would have more sense to re-open one of those.
