At this week’s Community Board 2 meeting it was announced that the Red Apple Group, Councilwoman Tish James and State Committee Member Lincoln Restler would be holding a meeting about the long-awaited supermarket at Myrtle and Ashland, on the Andrea site. (It’s been almost five years since an Associated Supermarket was razed to make way for the development.) No juicy details have emerged, and as far as we know the supermarket space is still planned for the basement, and a CVS has leased the ground floor. The meeting will address how the supermarket can best serve the community, which was characterized as a “food desert” at the CB meeting. If you’re interested in attending, mark your calenders for April 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Ingersoll Community Center.

  1. There’s a Bravo supermarket a few blocks away on Myrtle, but there isn’t a drugstore for blocks and blocks. The closest one that I’ve found is Duane Reade in Fulton St. mall, which is hardly convenient…. I’ll be thrilled for either, if they actually happen. Does anyone know what else is happening on the block with all that construction between the Andrea and the Toren?

  2. Where have people in this nabe been doing their food shopping for the past 5 years? It’s a big population: Ingersoll and Walt Whitman Houses, University Towers, Kingsview, and now all the new high rises on Flatbush Ave coming online. Why has it taken John Catsimatidis, developer of the Andrea and owner of Gristedes, so long to get this done?
