Six towers planned to cover up the unsightly railyard will not be built until the seven other towers are built first, according to a story in the Atlantic Yards Report. (This is a change from the original schedule, which can be seen in the graphic reproduced in the story.) Other details are trickling out: First, three towers will be built on the same block as Barclays Center. Next up are the four towers on the southeast block, currently in use as a parking lot. Rents in the residential towers are expected to bring in more than $50 a square foot, considerably more than was expected initially. AYR calculates a 450-square-foot studio would rent for $2,025 a month; a 700-square-foot one-bedroom would go for $3,150 a month; and two-bedroom of 950 square feet would be priced at $4,275 a month. Forest City Ratner Executive Vice President MaryAnne Gilmartin, who spoke at an investor update at the Barclays Center arena Monday, said that, contrary to published reports, the developer has not yet decided if the first tower will be modular or conventional. It could go either way, she said.
