Earlier this summer the old 213 Mexican spot at 213 Smith Street was sporting some serious signage for Mediterranean Cuisine. We noticed the Greek-inspired awning and a menu on display earlier this week, and blog Jazz and Jill (via Cobble Hill Blog) wrote they opened on Wednesday. The newcomer is Athena, which already has Park Slope and Bay Ridge locations. There’s a lunch menu and a good selection of traditional Greek dishes, as well as soups, salads, paninis and wraps. It also looks like they’ll be open until 4am on weekends. Excited? Not?

  1. OK, We went there last night, yes we had a glass of wine so there is liquor here (yay).

Food is just as good as Athena on 6th Ave. The seating however was not really that comfortable, as the owner had mentioned to us. The booth was a little low and had not much foot room, but the food more than made up for it.
Having lamb chops that truly mad my mouth water!! along with rice, loving their humus.
They make the best bread rum cake on earth.

The service was excellent and the staff is very friendly.

  2. We tried the Athena in Park Slope after my kids went there for their cooking camp field trip (it was Greek week). The food was really quite good – good ingredients, nicely prepared, and there were a few things on the menu I haven’t seen at other Greek restaurants. Service was very friendly despite a backup in the kitchen. The owner was very attentive. Plus it was BYOB to boot.
