The Post’s Brooklyn Blog reports that the final draft report from consultants Bay Area Economics studying possible non-housing revenue streams for Brooklyn Bridge Park has been released, and it says there aren’t “enough alternative funding opportunities to stop at least some of the new housing set for John Street in DUMBO and by Pier 6 in Brooklyn Heights from being built.” The two developments are supposed to bring in around $8 million annually; the park’s yearly maintenance budget is expected to top $16 million. After the draft version of this report was released a few months ago, many called for the study to analyze the possible conversion of Jehovah Witnesses properties in the neighborhood as sources of funding in the future, but that hasn’t been considered because the consultants and city say the “Witnesses aren’t warm to moving fast enough on the plan to meet construction timetables at the park.”

the maintenance budget is probably somewhat padded, this is NY after all, but it is a waterfront park and it was designed with artificial ponds and underground rain collection systems and cisterns. Muy complicado.
For now, the revenues from One Brooklyn Bridge Park will have to suffice.
How much did this brilliant report cost?
That is how money is wasted.
What did anyone expect it to say? That the tooth fairy was going to donate a share of her profits?
