On yesterday’s Food and Drink Round-Up, as well as a Brooklynian post, there was word that La Taqueria was shutting its doors at 72 7th Avenue for good; this came on the heels of our reporting a DOH-related closure earlier this month followed by a promise to reopen. The sign on the window reads: “It is with great sadness that as of today [Wednesday] the bar and full service side of La Taqueria will be closing permanently. However, the back portion of this side will be available for seating without full service, as our take-out side will remain open.” The other restaurant, Rachel’s, is still open on 7th and 8th. GMAP
lots of NYC places wont pass the DOH inspections. no biggie is a place is caught on something – as long as it’s not the crazy crap we see on Kitchen Nightmare show with Ramsey (ie rotting food with roaches, rats, etc crawling all over, etc)
Call me whatever you want, but once a restaurant is shut by the DOH…it’s a wrap for me. Sorry…mentally the image is hard to get past. Sometimes it’s hard, like Thanksgiving now when I see the long lines for cheesecake and I keep it moving because the mental image of Mickey in the display grosses me out. I only have the memories of how that strawberry cheese pie and shortcake taste. For those who are gonna say that all restaurants have pests it is one thing to see and know it and another to not.
Glad to hear Rachel’s is still open. I think it’s the better of two places.
We’ll see what happens.

Actually, ther Tacqueria is an inexpensive place to eat, so this should actually be a good time for it.
This place was slowly going downhill, and it may not have ended. Contraction is not a good thing in business.
Kind of a sensational, inaccurate headline: not the tacqueria; just the bar-side.
Come on, you scared me there!
I know the landlord had put the entire space on the market last year…seems he wanted to test the waters. Guess he gave up on them too.
Sad to see this AND Slope sports two doors down go under.
That TINY Slope Sports space is on the market with Corcoran for 5K a month.
I think if these places weren’t so hush hush about what the violations were, especially if “minor”, then the public would be less likely to freak out and stop going. In some instances it’s as simple as the hot water isn’t hot enough to sterilize properly.
