Does the rendering above signal that Gowanus has suddenly become marketable? The building in question is the under-construction 255 1st Street (see photo on jump), which was designed by Steven Kratchman Architect, the firm that had a hand in designing Chelsea Piers. It’s entirely possible that the building’s name has changed since the rendering was produced, but we’re fascinated by the fact that the developers would name a condo between 4th and 5th avenues (in Park Slope!) after the canal/industrial neighborhood. The condo will have three one-bedrooms, 16 two-bedrooms and 13 three-bedrooms, and it’s supposed to hit the market soon. GMAP DOB P*Shark

  1. is there a particular reason for all this bitterness or is it just human nature.

it’s just a name, could have been The Majestic. Doesn’t have to mean anything really…

I live near a place called “The Barbara”. Believe me – not a single Barbara in sight.

  2. most of the typical snobby/liberal park slope people I have met bought their brownstones for very little in the 80’s.

The snobs have been there for 20. The new rich people are a small cross section that have moved in over the last 5 years.

  3. small minded thinking like those that never thought the meatpacking district would ever be a hip neighborhood with blood and pig guts streaming down the streets and now look at it.

    have some vision people.

  4. I have a great idea for a “water feature” in the lobby…

A little canal, with a bridge for residents to cross over. Oil slicks, plastic dead koi floating, mysterious bubbles.

Maybe they could bring in those smell experts from Vegas and pipe in the appropriate manufactured aromas.

  5. “you would never believe some people don’t want to live amongst obnoxious people obsessed with crown moldings and fireplaces.”

but that’s why your point is so completely absurd.

they WILL be living among the dreaded slopers. this is right smack in park slope proper.

you don’t seem to be able to make a point that makes sense.

  6. Dear Mr. Brownstoner,

Could you please make a seperate site for the Park Slopers so we won’t have to deal with their attitudes and “why pay 700K for a brownstone in CH when you can get one in PS for 3 million!”

    Enough is enough
