Does the rendering above signal that Gowanus has suddenly become marketable? The building in question is the under-construction 255 1st Street (see photo on jump), which was designed by Steven Kratchman Architect, the firm that had a hand in designing Chelsea Piers. It’s entirely possible that the building’s name has changed since the rendering was produced, but we’re fascinated by the fact that the developers would name a condo between 4th and 5th avenues (in Park Slope!) after the canal/industrial neighborhood. The condo will have three one-bedrooms, 16 two-bedrooms and 13 three-bedrooms, and it’s supposed to hit the market soon. GMAP DOB P*Shark

History note for this rather uninformed poster.
During that period the Crown Heights riots and the murder of Yusef Hawkins occurred. Race relations were poor and the mayor was unpopular with many. There was a nasty recession – there were empty storefronts and many people talked about or did actually leave the city. There was the same kind of feeling of downward spiral as during the fiscal crisis in the 70’s. I may be naive but I am surprised how uninformed new residents are about relatively recent history in Broolyn.

If that is the aim, there are serious flaws. However it does create a trail of commentary which allows users to project an idealogical composite of the poster.
Without Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC, NY, USA, North America, Earth, Galaxy, Universe there is no existence.
All this thread’s missing is:
– someone proclaiming the building “Fugly.”
– someone proclaiming that poster “Fugly.”
– someone saying it will be worthless when AY is built.
– The actual What posting something.
– The actual What posting as someone pretending to be The What.
– Someone calling out as pathetic the person who calls everyone else out as pathetic.
