Home Depot Opens in Bedford Stuyvesant

The Home Depot on Hamilton has the worst service..They need to shut it down and start over. I think the people that work there are retarded.. no offense to retards.
HD is better if you know what you are looking for, but Lowe’s has less of a warehouse feel. The mom-and-pos are finished, sadly. They can’t compete on price.
is that last post a joke? I think the point was that we *want* to read brownstoner; we just don’t want to read silly arguments where people call each other stupid for no good reason…
No one is forcing anybody to read Brownstoner. If you don’t like it, stop reading it, stupid.
To Anon 1pm, I’ve noticed, too, that a lot of the postings on Brownstoner have gotten nasty. I’m not sure why the postings have gotten personal and hostile in the last couple of months or so; I just hope it settles down.
Ok, I’m sick of people getting so hostile over every little thing on this site. Just become some people are interested in comparing HD & Lowe’s doesn’t mean they “have never been to Bed Stuy and don’t care”. Sheesh.
Can’t we talk about two things at once? Maybe they’re comparing hardware stores because they care about the neighborhood– not because they don’t.
This reminds me of the way people got all personal & nasty about the reference to the bearded man in the cherry picker. Settle down, please….
I have not been there yet, however, it seems that most of you are missing the point. I guess most of you have never been to Bed Stuy and don’t care. It’s not an issue of HD vs. Lowes, but the fact that Bed Stuy now has a Home Depot, a Duane Reade and a lovely Food Town (first visit on Saturday). Some may disagree – but I consider this progress for an area that has been chronically underserved. I’m not a long-timer (5 years now), but having to go all the way to Hamilton and Atlantic Center was quite inconvenient when I was re-doing my brownstone and needed groceries and a pharmacy.
I visited the Home Depot this past Saturday and was very pleased…Especially, since I live in CH and Im so tired of driving to the HD in Gateway or Hamilton Ave. As a real estate broker, I must say, for those who tend to “look down” on Bed-Stuy, that having a HD in Bed-Stuy is a “sure tell sign” that Bed-Stuy is a HOT market!! All of the new home buyers don’t want to drive all across town just get lumber and other home items! They just want to walk down the street! I just pray that it doesn’t become a “madhouse” like some of the other HD’s:)
It seems kind of obvious to me that there’s enough hardware-buying to be done in this renovating world to make room enough for both mom-and-pop *and* big-box retailers.
I feel like I’m pretty typical in this respect: I buy most of my hardware at Adami (on Myrtle) because I like them & it’s faster than going to Home Depot or Lowes for every little hammer or nail.
But if I’m doing something big, I go to the big box stores to get all of my shopping done in one shot– and save a few bucks. I find it very hard to believe that the mom-and-pops can compete w/ the big-boxers in terms of price. I’ve never found that to be true.
