This can only be described as the most momentous news in the history of time: The new LIRR terminal entrance at Atlantic Station is supposed to open to the public next week, according to a worker on the site. The MTA has been building the terminal at Flatbush and Hanson Place for what feels like an eternity. The worker also said that there’s supposed to be a completion ceremony inside the facility tomorrow.

So, what, 8 years to build a one-story building?
And now we get to walk through disgusting black sarcophagi on the sidewalk? I’m not sure that’s an improvement over the eternal construction site.
looks really great – I was worried all these years but this greatly exceeds expectations. hope they do more of this with all the new development in the area to overshadow the hideous target, etc atlantic mall behind. if this city could just keep eyes on the ball we could have some wonderful modern art/architecture to pave the renaissance brooklyn is experiencing. all the best architects in the world would love a chance to build in nyc – yet more weird crap goes up than tasteful – and this is the city that invented modern architecture! ny is a constantly morphing entity – as long as there is respect for the old, the new can be wonderful too. so much potential!
Looks decent. Shame about the rest of the building.
so is the official name of the station going to change from “flatbush avenue” to “atlantic terminal station?”
looks good! I like what they did here, gives the corner a kind of deco grandness.
Ever since I’ve lived in NY (since 1987)that corner had been in some stage of construction or demolition. The part I miss about all the renovation is that one used to be able to go into that cute little building on the traffic triangle and buy sodas and newpapers, maybe even coffee.
AY will be on the forever schedule, for the most part. The stadium, a couple luxury towers, and a HUGE blacktop parking lot over the former railyards will go up fairly quickly, and then….

Hurray, finally! Looks pretty nice to me.
“This is indeed yet another hideous addition to the neighborhood.. Welcome. sigh.”
And welcome to another frownstoner, miserable about everything….. HAPPY HOLIDAYS : )
