Yesterday it was revealed that the Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare has gone from being the only Brooklyn restaurant with a two-star Michelin rating to being the only restaurant in the borough with three stars. The Times notes that Brooklyn Fare’s two-star rating last year caught some by surprise because of the restaurant’s less-than-luxurious trappings, but Michelin’s North American editor in chief has this to say about the rating: “I don’t believe there is anything quite like it in the world, though you might see the closest parallels in Tokyo or Kyoto. If you took the cuisine out of the setting it would compare favorably with other three stars.” The other six restaurants awarded three stars are in Manhattan, as are the nine that were awarded two stars. Brooklyn’s one-star establishments include the likes of Peter Luger, River Café and Dressler. Meanwhile, in other food ranking news, today the Daily News reports that more Brooklyn restaurants are represented in the latest Zagat guide: “gobbling up five of the top slots for best pizza and ‘steaking’ out a bigger-than-ever presence at the front of cuisine categories, including BBQ, dessert, Mexican and Middle Eastern.” The guide ranks Totonno’s in Coney Island as the best pizza in the city; Lucali is named the second best and Di Fara comes in third.
