184-north-8th-041311.jpgThe empty two-story building at 184 North 8th Street in Williamsburg between Bedford and Driggs is shaping up to be a martial arts studio and gym. At this week’s CB1 meeting, a proposal came forth to fill the warehouse with training rooms, a boxing ring, treadmills, and amenities for children. Although there would be a focus on martial arts, the gym would still be multi-purpose. The plan is to offer memberships and stay open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Also, over at 272 Driggs, “Caribou Baby” petitioned the board to change zoning at the building to teach movement classes for children as well as parenting classes. (A variance is needed to conduct any sort of physical activity in the space.) The proposals for both businesses will go to the next land-use meeting for a vote. GMAP
