restaurant
Lewis and Ruby’s, 393 Lewis Avenue.
Christian Dennery and wife-business partner Maria Dolores Lagdameo, who brought us Liquors and Bodegas (one and two on my neighborhood dining list), have recently opened Lewis and Ruby’s on Lewis between Decatur and Macdonough. The cucumber salad is spicy and refreshing, the stuffed flounder tender and delicious, with sweet potato and stuffed with corn bread. Also on the menu: seafood gumbo, crab cakes catfish, grilled shrimp and BBQ ribs. Brunch served on weekends. BYOB for now until they get a liquor license. Heaven.

  1. recently had dinner at lewis & ruby. finally bed stuy has a restauraunt!!! The menu is fantastic. We tried the bluefish salad, crab cakes, catfish & glazed chicken. The food is terriffic. They need to tie up a few loose ends, but it’s a great place for dinner after a long day…and definitely kid friendly. They have a liquor lisence coming soon too!

  3. The Thai place is called Fulton Thai and it is the same outfit as Myrtle Thai, near Myrtle and Clinton. Nice food, good to see they are expanding to the other side of Clinton Hill.

  4. For something really new, delicious and inexpensive, try the new Thai Food restaurant on the corner of Fulton and Vanderbilt (sadly located next to a gas station, but fortunately located right across the street from Olivino, where you can get a goooooood and cheap bottle of wine to go with your Thai meal!!)
This restaurant does a good take-out business, but the eat-in atmosphere is worth a sit down. Not To Be Missed.

  5. Hey browngirl, look for great things to be coming out of Solomon’s Porch — a friend of mine is buying it and has plans to get a beer and wine license and expand its menu to be more of a “real” restaurant, while preserving the current goodies.

  6. Kush is excellent, and well priced. Jacques, the owner, is originally from the Ivory Coast I think. Great French inspired African fare. Lovely fish and meat dishes… Highly recommended. Please go, I do not think it will disappoint. Places like Kush really should be supported.

    Also, their breakfasts are fantastic.

  7. Agree with the earlier posters. One of the reasons Bodegas is poor is that they have little competition. We and several people we know in CH eat out a few times a week but we usually head out of the neighborhood. Clinton Hill is crying out for more good restaurants. I would direct people who haven’t been to try Locanda on Gates and Cambridge. For a superlative sandwich and coffee made right, 275 Grand is way, way better than you might think for a small cafe. The people who run it know what they’re doing. Good vibes.
