Grand Opening for Comida
Comida, the Mexican restaurant that’s been in the works for 230 5th Avenue in Park Slope, is now open. Here’s Park Slope checks out the menu, which has “Mexican standbys like tamales, enchiladas, and roast pork joined by specialties like carne asada, chipotle shrimp, and roast pork.” Anyone tried it yet? This is exactly the same signage as the Comida that was on the UWS at Columbus & 82nd or 83rd Street. There was a fire in the building a couple months after they opened and that was that. We ate there a couple times and it was actually pretty good…or at least much better than the other neighborhood alternatives. The UWS’s loss is Park Slope’s gain.
Oaxaca isn’t all that great or even good. I’ll eat it if I’m drunk. Maybe I’m just overly critical because I have Chavella’s as an option.
Yeah, eany meany miney moe, I’ll take Oaxaca down the road. Three words: Taco Happy Hour
“Sounds like someone works for a restaurant nearby and is afraid of losing some business and instead of focusing on their own mediocre food, would like to now denounce this place which has been open all of a week. ”
dude – i’m not trying to start an argument but it seems 5th Ave restaurant owners like to bash one another ALL the time (it’s been pointed out before on other sites)
“A little odd to join the website just to talk smack about a new restaurant, don’t ya think?”
His review above looks quite similar to the Yelp review from “Arthur O.”
BTW,
This is the first post ever on Brownstoner for Ohmnifarious. A little odd to join the website just to talk smack about a new restaurant, don’t ya think?

hmmmmm
“Is this is a chain? ” Not sure but I think it used to be located on the UWS.
@kshay2: you are totally right!
my wife and i checked it on the evening after their soft opening and the service – despite the eager staff – drinks, and food were all horrible.
we waited over an hour for our food and when i inquired about it – while the whole time the waiter assured us that we’d get our food “soon” – they then found out that our order had been “lost” because the printer ran out of paper. hmmmm.
the hyped up margaritas were simply salty and devoid of alcohol.
when we were finally served – after nearly an hour of a half wait – the order was incorrect, and when the right order came out, everything was either too salty, bland, and simply bad (rubbery chicken closes the books for good).
really sad that the third mexican joint at the same corner of president st and 5th ave is just as poor as the rest (el jalapeno – the positive reviews on yelp is seriously mind-boggling – and mezcals).
surely, newly opened restaurants are going to have their hiccups, but the poor attitude of the management and the lack of skills in the kitchen are going to drive them into the ground just like other joints that croaked at 230 5th.
Wow, those are some classic fake 5-star Yelp reviews.
Every restaurant that’s occupied this location seems to be crowded for about a month after it first opens, then gradually tapers off, then closes. Even if the food were good, I’m not sure they’re going to get that repeat business by offering cuisine that, as rob points out, is available at a half-dozen other places in the neighborhood.
