Gothamist takes a look at the Reinventing Grand Army Plaza exhibit, which begins today. Two hundred entries were winnowed down to 30, and the Beep gave the official thumbs up to one of them at 11AM today (anybody hear the verdict?) After you see the exhibit, you can vote for your favorite of the 30, via text message or at their Web site. Winners will be announced October 8. In the meantime, which one you putting the money on? Check out Gothamist for a larger selection of entries.

  1. Yup, Sam, call me names but I believe if you’re only interested in pouring cold water from a great height you should absent yourself from the conversation. Community involvement is hard work and the people who put in the long hours to make positive changes in their neighborhoods deserve better than your instant, uninformed punditry. You say “the scheme illustrated is a disaster” — yet there are multiple schemes on submission and none of them is final yet! A redesigned GAP is an exciting prospect for most Brooklynites and the THIRTY top entries make for fascinating viewing imho.

  2. Hey folks, go easy with the criticism please. Many local residents have been involved with the recent re-envisioning of Grand Army Plaza. Ever heard of GAPCo? No, then check it out: http://www.grandarmyplaza.org. Surely you’ve noticed that there have already been changes made to the traffic flow and some great new landscaping installed. GAP is one of the premier locations in the borough. It deserves to be better and it will be soon. Get involved or butt out.

  3. I’m sure you’re right, sam. Whether you’re kidding or not, it really would be incredibly successful I believe, especially given all the families with children in the area.

  4. And exactly how long is it going to take for the city to complete the update? And what effect this going to have on traffic in the area? No thanks!!! I agree, there are better ways to spend out taxes.

  5. Oy, please!

Who wants to see Grand Army Plaza look like ground zero for fifteen years of start and stop construction?

    Leave it alone.
Put in a pedestrian bridge and “shake hut” ala Madison Square Park and call it a day.

spend the money on the schools.
