The Gowanus Canal is notorious for being one of Brooklyn’s (and the nation’s, for that matter) most polluted sites. In the midst of a major EPA cleanup, it’s identified as both a major source of blight and a development opportunity. Brooklyn has a number of polluted sites, some of which (like the canal) are undergoing redevelopment.

Jarrett Murphy, Executive Publisher of City Limits, will moderate a panel of experts on the history, remediation efforts, and the long term impacts of projects slated for areas around some Superfund sites. Three sites will be explored — the Gowanus Canal and, on the Brooklyn-Queens border, Newtown Creek and the Wolff-Alport Chemical Plant.

The discussion will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Brooklyn Historical Society on Tuesday, April 18. Tickets are $5 for general admission and free for BHS members. You can get more info and buy tickets to the event here.
