To promote its new Field Trip app, Google on Saturday is hosting what it calls a “neighborhood adventure” in Greenpoint. Participants will meet in Transmitter Park at 2 pm, and use Field Trip to explore the neighborhood, including sailing mini-boats in Newtown Creek and discovering where colored pencils were invented, said a company spokeswoman. (We can guess the answer to the last one.) The app is not Brooklyn-specific, but draws on resources such as Curbed and Zagat and includes information on architecture and local history. For now, it is available only on Android.
