Marcus Garvey Boulevard will lose a splash of color and a lot of good vibes this Sunday when Gizmo Vintage Honey closes her small and vibrant clothing store, Lulu Vintage Clothing.

Gizmo Vintage Honey, the name the iconic creative and entrepreneur goes by, made the announcement on her Instagram page that she and her sidekick, Yorkie dog Poopie Butt, will be leaving the block. “We appreciate all of your support, love, motivation, strength, and kind words along our journey this far!”

“I have NO ANSWERS for where I will be going or what we will be doing next. I have no clue and will step away for a bit of time until I figure something out,” Vintage Honey wrote in the post. “We do not have a PLAN for what is next and may have to step back to take time to rest, re-evaluate and focus on our small business LULU’s going forward.”

Gizmo Vintage Honey opened her store at 438 Marcus Garvey Boulevard in 2018 and has become a fixture in the area with her racks of bright vintage clothing lining the sidewalk. And Vintage Honey does a great job communicating the vibrancy of the clothes: She posts regular videos to her Instagram and TikTok of dances, runway walks down the block, and her interactions with passersby. She also gives viewers the chance to haggle with her in real time in her auction videos.

“I combine vintage clothing, old-school music, and dance,” she says on her Patreon page. She calls the videos “vintagetainment.”

During the pandemic, Vintage Honey was spotlighted by New York social media personality and the city’s “unofficial talent scout” New York Nico, and overnight her following on social media skyrocketed. She said in her goodbye post that she will continue to be on social media and followers will have to stay tuned for her next moves.

The store is holding a sale today, Saturday, and Sunday between noon and 4:30 p.m. and will continue posting items and taking Instagram orders, Vintage Honey wrote on social media.

“If you are in the neighborhood, please stop by, we’d love to hug you and say thank you for your support and motivation along our journey!” she added.
