  1. just read the article about Bushwick.
Were any of you alive in 1960? Flatbush,
East New York, were lovely neighborhoods.
Yes lovely. More shops than your quaint little nabes now. Landlords, there are apartment house nabes, busted those neighborhoods. Mortgages, loans, a small
part of the process. Landlords decimated Flatbush, block by block.East New York, well the riots and burnings didn’t help.
I won’t go into the whole nasty process,
but kids, read. I realize sixty percent of you weren’t born here. I realize you are all caught up in the dollar. It doesn’t hurt to be well informed.
It was a differnet time, and landlords
wanted their buildings back, and would do anything. Most of those buildings were full of old people. My building, I had about 1200 sq ft in an elevator building for 125 per month. … My neighbors were wonderful. Now none of that. I live in a coop in the west village, sell my paintings for lots of money, and miss the New York that is gone. I miss intelligent conversation.
I miss bright eyed kids clutching their books heading off for college. Artists, look at things differently it is true, and this is an early morning lament.
There are very few bright eyed people
on the street anymore. Everywhere you go the young seem hypnotized, dazed, somehow medicated. They only seem interested in the fast buck I see no end to it.
