French eyeglasses maker Anne & Valentin opened last week at 200 Smith Street in Carroll Gardens, a spokesperson let us know. Its frames, which come in unusual shapes and colors, such as pink metal and two-tone acetate, are made in France.

Smith Street is becoming quite the district for high-end opticians. The store joins a growing number in the area, including James Leonard at 309 Smith Street and Moscot at 159 Court Street. Pardon Me For Asking was the first to write about the new store. GMAP

  1. What is it with eye glasses all of a sudden? There is a new “designer” eye glass shop on Nostrand in Crown Heights, a couple of new ones in the last few months on Myrtle Ave in Clinton Hill.
Do people really buy that many pairs of glasses to support the kinds of rents that these locations get?

  2. Yup agree Cay~ the high-end stores you mentioned spot on~ ghost town. I guess they figured w/ the real estate of brownstones being bought now in the millions, they have money to splurge…..not! These store do not have a shelf life in the community, in my opinion.
