Word’s gotten around that Friday is the day Atlantic Yards holdout Freddy’s will be re-opening in South Slope at 627 5th Avenue. We were lucky enough to tour the new spot, where very little of the previous Ellis Bar remains, but the old Freddy’s certainly lives on. The bar, bar stools, chairs and tables (complete with graffiti) were all brought over. There is a slightly smaller back room than the one at old bar, and it will host bands and have a rotating art gallery. The level of detail is pretty outstanding, from the foreign bills pasted to the ATM machine, to the chandeliers, to the frog in the fish tank. A tin ceiling was also installed. The first thirteen pictures are of the new space and the last two shots, courtesy of Tracy Collins, pay a small homage to what came before it.

I checked it out and it really sucked. Whats up with that ugly contemporary storefront with the green awnings? Location SUCKS. They could of used a little bit more of Ratner’s money to change the outside to match the inside. Crap Place, Crap Location.
Donald is nothing but a phony. He’s all about the money.
RIP FREDDYS

The new space is amazing! Don O’Finn, the guy that makes the videos, designed the whole space — its like one huge art installation.
Fantastic! A friend of a friend knows the Freddy’s family and friends really well and knows they struggled and fought hard for a new locale. I was just a faithful fan of the old space and considered Freddy’s a second home. The house music, bartenders and crazy/ great NO COVER weekly back room events always entertained. Here’s to you Freddy’s! Thanks for coming back. SEE YOU SOON!!!
I’m with slick. They seem to have recovered well. In fact the new space looks a lot better than the previous place’s crappy interior.
Apparently moving wasnt a big deal after all.
did you really look at all 13 picture? :-/
