In addition to showing that the zoom on the iPhone ain’t all that, this photo reveals that the foundation of Jane’s Carousel has been laid. As you may recall, we reported that ground was broken in mid-November and gave you another look just before Christmas.

  1. well that is very nice of him fer sure, and there is nothing inherently wrong with a carousel (except that they are slow and boring and usually are horses), i just think that is a horrible spot to put it. they couldnt have tucked it away out of site in some park somewhere? it’s a blight, pure and simple. a different kind of blight than we are used to, but blight nontheless. modern urban blight!

  2. No Rob, when you are married to the guy who owns most of the land around it and you bought the carousel, had it restored, and want to offer it to the people of Brooklyn, instead of having it in one of your many buildings, just for yourself, you can do whatever you want. I think it’s great.

  3. i find it absolutely APPALLING that something as mundane as a carousel would go in such prime area like that. i feel bad for some people who will now have to look out their windows and a view of a carousel. blech! they couldnt have put it somewhere else?

  4. It is going to be really nice when it is done, too bad they didn’t start last summer when this part of the park just laid dormant.

I feel bad some of the trees that had to be taken out, but I am hopeful there will be a lot more planted.

Is this the same carousel that is in one of the stores in DUMBO ?
