The Department of Environmental Protection plans to install seven bioswales in Fort Greene, on Carlton, Clermont, Vanderbilt, Clinton and Waverly avenues, between Atlantic Avenue and Fulton Street. The bioswalses act as a sort of “linear rain garden.” They are planted with native vegetation that receives and absorbs stormwater runoff as an alternative to storm sewers. The construction coincides with the Atlantic Avenue Water Main Installation Project already underway. The project manager of the Office of Green Infrastructure is making a presentation to CB2 about the initiative tonight at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, at 6 p.m.
