Twenty custom-designed tree guards and twenty tree guard benches have been installed on Myrtle Avenue between Washington Park and Classon Avenue, courtesy of the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership. The project was announced in August. The panels for the tree guards were designed by local artists and their designs range from graphic patterns to skylines to maps. You can see pictures of all the guards over here. In an effort to support Myrtle Avenue’s greening efforts and to fund street furniture maintenance, the Myrtle Ave. Partnership is seeking sponsors to “adopt-a-bench.” Each ‘adoption’ commitment is for 5 years, and costs $2,500 for a tree guard bench and $1,500 for a tree guard (without a bench). More details are here. The Partnership plans to install a second phase of tree guards next year after funding is committed, and will release an open call for panel designs in early 2012.
