We’re big fans of LeNell’s Wine & Spirit Boutique in Red Hook, and her Cocktail of the Month email-newsletter is always a treat but her January ’07 cocktail is the wildest yet. As previously reported, Lenell’s got a backyard full of chickens, and she enjoys old-fashioned cocktails like the Ramos Gin Fiz and the classic Whiskey Sour, which conveniently call for egg whites. At a recent holiday party, her partner, Ben, dreamed up a new use for all the leftover yolks a little something he calls The Good Humor. The drink includes 1 very fresh egg yolk, half an ounce of heavy cream, 2 ounces Aperol (a red bitter similar to Campari), and grated nutmeg. According to LeNell, it tastes “almost like a push-up orange sherbet pop.” If you’re curious, LeNell’s is offering a red bitters tasting this weekend, and Aperol will be on the tasting table.
LeNell’s hours are noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 9pm on Sunday.
