domino-construction-051514

After months of back and forth negotiation about affordable housing, yesterday the City Council gave the thumbs up to Two Trees’ revised Domino development plan, as expected. The vote was unanimous with one abstention, DNAinfo reported. Two Trees promised to increase the number of affordable apartments to 700 out of 2,200 total and rent to families making 70 percent or less of the area’s median income.

The site has been cleared and is currently being used as a park and community space, above. Artist Kara Walker has an installation about sugar in the landmarked 1880s factory on the site. Construction has not yet started.
