Appetites were rewarded when the bustling and highly anticipated food hall finally opened to the public Friday.

Anticipation of DeKalb Market Hall at City Point has been making tastebuds tingle since it was first announced in 2015 and appetites were rewarded when the bustling food hall finally opened to the public Friday.

We got a sneak peak Thursday and it has come a long way since we last last checked in on construction in March. Located in the massive City Point complex, which takes up a block at the end of the Fulton Mall, it’s one of many developments that have been transforming Downtown Brooklyn since a 2004 rezoning.

The lower-level space that was unveiled has about 40 vendors — up from the roughly 30 vendors that were expected back in March.

Managing director and Foragers founder Anna Castellani was tapped to help create the hall, and Foragers has a significant presence in the hall, with butcher, market and rotisserie spaces.

Other vendors include well known names such as Katz’s Deli, Ample Hills Creamery, Bunsmith, the Arepa Lady, Lioni Italian Heroes and Bunker.

A few booths were not yet open by Thursday night. Meanwhile, while the signs were up, construction on the eagerly awaited Trader Joe’s is not yet complete. (The grocer is not part of the food hall, but is located on the same floor.)

Fortina, an Italian eatery by Chopped judge Christian Petroni, showed off its completed dining space but construction signs were still up as it awaits final inspections.

While all the vendors were able to customize their booths, neon signs were required. The bright and colorful signs, food aromas, narrow walkways and booths lend a carnival atmosphere to the space.

The hall is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Some vendors — like Andrew’s Classic Brooklyn Bagels — will open at 7 a.m. for the breakfast crowd.
