Here’s the latest from the ground floor of the rental building 80 Dekalb: Brooklyn Bagel Works is open, A La Creperie has been open since the end of April, and Smashburger continues construction. It was supposed to open mid-April but there’s still a considerable amount of work to be done inside.

  1. Well, crepes are small so it all seems to fit. Joking aside, when I walked by the building over the weekend by internal voice said, “food court for LIU students.”

  2. I tried the crepe place last week… quite good, actually. Nice what they’ve done with such a miniscule space, too. A pretty unique offering for this area, I hope it sticks around.

  3. There is groundfloor retail coming to Rockwell, and one would hope the vacant spaces in the Applebees building will be something good, like a midscale restaurant or a GAP

  4. I think these stores will get a ton of business, not only from residents but from the steady stream of Brooklyn Tech & LIU students, as well as Brooklyn Hospital, Verizon, and SSI employees nearby. Does anyone know if Forte sold their ground floor space yet? I thought they had (from BAM, maybe?) but don’t see any work happening (although lots of construction materials).

  5. I was surprised something along the lines of the Gourmet Garage store didn’t think of setting up shop in those spaces. I would imagine the whole ground floor might be big enough. Do we really need a bagel place, a pastry place and now another place to eat a hamburger?

I’m sure a decent, small, even gourmet supermarket in that building would get incredible business.

    Oh, well.
