A poster has gone up in the window of the former Unameable Books space on Bergen Street saying the storefront will soon be home to a business called Grandma’s Attic that specializes in “mid-century furniture.” The store’s website says the company is based in East Meadow and has been around for a couple decades. A taste of their wares is on this Flickr stream. GMAP

  1. I think people here know my feelings about Pintchik (it stinks) but I agree the strip is turning out nicely. It certainly has come a long way from the days when my ex-wife’s girlfriend operated a beauty parlor in one of these spaces. That said, I’m afraid “mid-century furniture” in that space is code for “overpriced.” But that doesn’t mean they won’t find a market in the neighborhood.

  2. “Bump
    Babeland
    Organic Heights
    Private Stock (men’s boutique)”

In my quick scan of the list (reading in haste) coupled with the other names straddling it (especially the one above it). I read that as Orgasmic Heights.

  3. Agreed, Santa. City Subs is one of the best places in the hood. Melt ain’t half bad either, and Bark is one of my absolute favorites. I eat there at least once a week.

For that matter Organic Heights has AMAZING smoothies, salads and coffee.

But we all know Rob hates anything with the word “organic” in it.

Was just in the bike shop over the weekend looking for a new one…the guys there are really nice.

  4. They also clearly oversaw the remodeling of the exterior of each of these stores, where each is painted a different bright color…no two are alike. Each one is pristine.

The strip is very quaint, yet right off of busy Flatbush Avenue and 5th Avenue.

I know some here seem to hate Pintchik Hardware, but they done good, in my book.

Rob, Bump is a maternity store. I’m guessing we can put you down for “lame” on that one too.
