Columbia Street's Iro Sushi Calls it Quits
Iro Sushi, the restaurant on the corner of Columbia and Kane that opened a couple years ago, has ceased to exist. The property is owned by the Fifth Avenue Committee, which is looking to lease the 776-square-foot space for $30 a foot. GMAP

Yep, lack of foot traffic is a big issue. The only way to make it on Columbia is to be a destination restaurant (Alma–because of view), do big takeout or catering (Jake’s, Margaret Palca) or offer something very unique (Jalopy Theater). I love the nabe and hope more businesses figure out how to make a living here! It’s easier over near Union. Btw, this place was decent with good prices, but nothing unique and the decor/atmosphere was dull.
Agree with Irieman- they really need to tap into the whole Pier 6 crowd since people park all the way over towards Kane.
These Columbia Streeet businesses need to learn how to market from the start and have a good product, or at least make people think they do. A new Italian joint is opening in the space across the street which has been shuttered for years. I hope it’s good, I would love a new Italian place around the corner, but they will need to draw people to last, there’s just not enough foot traffic.
