The plywood surrounding the lot on the southwest corner of Columbia, which has been used for various public art projects in the past, has been covered with posters and renderings advertising the “Royal Retreat Hotel” and the property’s supposed developer, Anytime Development. The renderings (see photo on jump) and semi-earnest copy go into a fantasticand almost believablelevel of detail (“This development features grand architecture, luxurious accommodations, excellent restaurants, beautiful gardens, cooling fountains, swimming pools, waterfalls and an abundance of activities including nightlife entertainment”). Right. . . ., has anyone checked the FAR for this lot?
Here’s another big honkin’ clue:
“Hotel guests may be transported directly to their cruise ship by means of a beautiful Air Yacht parked on the roof.”
I was fooled for a minute when walking by the other day. But it’s obviously an art project. The website is done with free open source software, for gosh sake’s. That’s one clue. I think there have been some interesting installations in this lot. Which doesn’t mean it WON’T be developed sometime soon!
That art space has so much potential. I wish something good would go in there some day. It’s usually stupid, smug crap like this…
Their website is vague and hokey…
ART PROJECT!! no way, don’t be fooled, they are trying to pass it as an art project to buy themselves sometime until they put in their foundation… save yourselves save your souls….. please
i love it, i think it is a beautiful job. A 15 story hotel built on a lot that is 16’x80′ is so genius in proportion. The elegant and slender tower will add so much class and intrigue to the neighborhood. Bravo to “Anytime development” bravo. i just have to say to the designers and planners of this project, please come to my neighborhood ANYTIME. Everyone should check out their website and voice their opinion, http://www.anytimedevelopment.com
COME ON!!!! Hello? Art project.
Simple as that. Don’t waste our time being foolish.
I do believe we are viewing or interacting with an “art” project.
