Cobble Hill CSA Hosts Potluck Fundraiser

Supporting Community Suported Agriculture, or CSA for short, is a win-win situation. Here’s how it works: City people pool a bunch of money in the beginning of the growing season; the money gets sent to a family farm that’s struggling to stay in business; the farm uses the money to grow high-quality, affordable produce; the fresh food gets delivered each week to the folks in the city. In short, the farm stays in business and the city people aren’t stuck with mealy squash from Met Foods. We’ve supported the Cobble Hill CSA for years, we’re already dreaming of their springtime specialties — especially those unbelievably sweet, fresh-picked strawberries from Green Thumb Farm in Watermill.

On Wednesday night, the Cobble Hill CSA is hosting a potluck dinner and fundraiser for Just Food, the non-profit organization that supports and organizes all the CSAs in NYC. (There are 11 CSAs in Brooklyn, so check the Just Food website for a location near you.) Non-members are invited to join the regulars and learn more about the group, and Dan Zanes will be playing some music for the kids in the early evening. Get the details after the jump…

The potluck is scheduled this Wednesday, January 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (with a snow date of January 31). It’s at Christ Church at 326 Clinton Street (corner of Kane Street) in Cobble Hill — enter through the doors to the left of the main entrance. Each attendee should bring a favorite dish for 4 to 6 people. So that they’re sure to get some variety, please check the list below and bring a dish that corresponds with the first letter of your last name:

A – E: Beverages
F – J: Appetizers
K – O: Main Dishes
P – T: Side Dishes
U – Z: Desserts
