Closing Bell: Swing Valley
We thought this curvy mound at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s soon-to-be-open Pier 6 might be some kind of skateboarding structure, but it turns out it’s to be called Swing Valley in honor of the many and varied swings it will host. The ones in this photo are the Tarzan swings, but there are also regular swings…

donatella, no jail in that hood. i heard that there a re plans for a “sorority house” and a “substance abuse rehab center.”

IME hovering (or helicoptering, if you will) has become passe.
I used to see a lot of overinvolved parents directing playtime for their precious darlings (my son is 11, to give you some reference). Now we have an 18 month old, and their seems to have been a paridigm shift in the last decade. In our nursery school, on city playgrounds, and at private functions, we notice a lot of ‘slow parenting’, just letting kids discover or figure things out for themselves.

Hovering parents notwithstanding, Brooklyn kids figure out how to have a really good time at the playground–any playground! Just like any kids anywhere, especially where they don’t have gigantic air conditioned houses to play with electronics all summer.
Looks pretty fun…
Where’s the jail?
park is nice, but those freakin helicopters flying above all day long on Good Friday gave us a Good Headache, we actually had to leave the park.
