We wrote that the ceiling of the Jay Street subway station was getting repainted two months ago, a project that was supposed to last two weeks. We don’t know how long it actually took to finish the job, but we finally got around to taking a picture of the final product. Looks good, right?

  1. I think the original posting for this quote the paint job as costing north of TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. Is there something I’m missing? How is that even within the realm of being accepted? I’ve thought about that quote over the past few months randomly and always shake my hand at the staggering figure. God only knows how much the city is getting taken to the cleaners on other projects…

  2. 11217 — you’re right. I also recently saw an RFP for a new “Willoughby Square Park” with underground parking, apparently to serve and beautify the area. My 94-year-old grandmother, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, used to go “downtown” for all her shopping. It’s been a long time since it was an upscale destination, but it is definitely seeing a revival.

  3. Curbed just had a post up about a request for proposals for the first and second floor of the Brooklyn Municipal Building. Looks like they’re trying to get some retail place to lease it.

  4. Both the A/C/F Jay St-Borough Hall and the R Lawrence-Metrotech center stations are being renamed to Jay St-Metrotech Ctr as part of the project that is connecting the stations.

  5. The station also appears to be in the process of being renamed. A number of the signs have been changed recently from “Jay St-Borough Hall” to “Jay St-Metrotech Ctr”

  6. No, it looks like shit. All they did was paint over everything. No crack filling, no smoothing. If you had a job like this in your house you’d sue the painter.

  7. Hopefully the plywood will be going soon. The connection to the R station is opening in less than a week, and the overall station rehabilitation/connection project should be done by the spring.
