Montrose Morris has written previously about Crown Height North’s oldest home, the Elkins House, and CHNA’s hope to purchase and renovate it. Left to deteriorate after it was landmarked, CHNA hopes to turn it into a community arts center. Initially the mortgage company that owns the home wanted to give CHNA an opportunity to purchase it, and CHNA was looking for a sponsor. But now the owners are asking for a quick cash sale for much more than they paid for it and aren’t giving CHNA the time needed to raise the necessary funds. To save the Elkins House, CHNA needs to raise at least $275,000 over the next 30 days and is looking for licensed and skilled construction tradespeople, architects, handymen and community volunteers willing to work on the restoration.
