Closing Bell: LPC to Vote on Calendaring Park Slope Historic District Extension Tomorrow

The Landmarks Preservation Commission will vote on whether or not to calendar the Park Slope Historic District Extension II tomorrow afternoon during its meeting, according to their agenda. If they vote yes to calendar, it will be a very big deal, since that means the actual vote to designate it, which will come later, is very likely to be in favor. Phase II is about half the size of the recent South Slope expansion and includes about 287 buildings. The area is adjacent to the northern part of the Park Slope Historic District, which was landmarked in 1973. The block of St. Marks between 5th and 6th avenues, above, with the working gas lamps, is part of the proposed expanded district. The LPC will also vote on whether to calendar the former MH Renken Dairy Building at 580 Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill. Finally, they will vote on whether to landmark the former Long Island Business College building at 143 South 8th Street in Williamsburg.
