Here’s a cool design and planning competition hosted by Gowanus by Design, a community-based urban design advocacy group. The focus is on community development within the context of a toxic waterway. The question: “Can a new community center and remediation facility on a heavily contaminated State Superfund site be designed to strengthen the urban infrastructure and educate the community about environmental challenges facing the area?” (Seems timely as developers look to develop the shores of the Gowanus Canal once again. We also mentioned the contest briefly last week.) The registration deadline is the 19th of this month, the submission deadline is December 14th. The first prize winner will be awarded $3,000.
