  1. It was infernally hot this (Sunday) afternoon–God help the vendors who were in direct sun–but there was Blue Marble ice cream, along with antique anatomical prints of strangely resected abdominal organs…and a Goreyesque bell jar full of quail eggs…and a new Gumby…and artisanal pickles. I didn’t buy anything (my fellow travelers were fading fast in the heat), but the location is killer; we hung out in the park for awhile as the river traffic went by. I didn’t dare try the Port-o-Sans, however, despite needing them; I just kept thinking, “methane exploding in a tin can in the sun,” and didn’t dare. What happened to the real rest room in Empire state park? Now it’s marked “Staff only”!
