What is this contraption going up in East River State Park in Williamsburg? It is a chimney swift nest tower courtesy of the Audubon Society, which is installing them in several parks across the city in memory of Geoffrey Cobb Ryan, a founder of New York City Audubon and a board member of both National Audubon and Audubon New York. The chimney swifts will have a cozy place to roost and build nests (plus enjoy a great view of Manhattan). It should be completely finished next week so check it out as you enter the park at North 8th Street.
Will the delicate chimney swifts survive the southside gang warfare in the story above?
Hmm, maybe it’s 6:30… in any event, as I biked by on Sunday, I saw the rangers closing the park while it was still light out.
Really? I took this picture around that time. And I still saw kids going in and out of the park. Maybe I just missed the Park people ushering everyone out…
Unfortunately the park doesn’t welcome humans after 6pm. Wanted to see the sunset? Tough!
