This morning the Brooklyn Paper poked some fun at the press release they received for new bike racks on Kent Avenue and North Eighth Street, installed earlier this month. We checked out said bike racks this past weekend, and must admit, were unsure if these were the racks worthy of such a shout out. Regardless, it’s not a bad way to use empty space in a park, and they look well used to us!

*Rob* – Yes, those are bike racks. The circles on sticks.
edifice rex, I don’t think so. This is space right near the street entrance at North 8th. There is also the cobblestone. What else would go there, when the rest of the park is open, with grass, the water, and tables? The entire rest of the park is the open space worth enjoying.
The only thing more annoying than people on bikes who don’t follow traffic rules are the people who walk their bikes on the sidewalk everywhere. They’re like that dude on Peanuts who always carries the security blanket everywhere.
It’s good they filled the empty, fallow, useless space. Wouldn’t this be a diminishment of “open space” if it was for anything other than bikes.
they dont look so bad. functional. i do have a question tho,.. i’ve noticed some circular metal things lately on the sidewalk. im assuming they are bike racks? does anyone know what im talking about?
