Here’s a short vid of the idyllic scene at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden this weekend during the annual Sakura Matsuri Festival.

  1. the gardens staff appeared to be totally unprepared for the massive turn-out. the lines along eastern parkway were huge, but patient, in the early afternoon. me?..i forked over 85-bucks for a membership, just to jump ahead of everybody else.

  2. Yes, enjoying the cherry blossoms is so much nicer anytime but that weekend when they have the tent and entertainment….it is actually serene other times, even when crowded.

  3. Agree, was semi-organized chaos. Not even authentic Japanese Cherry Blossoms and the crowd was inhibiting. Will skip next year..

  4. Not quite! I can also attest to it being jam-packed with a lot more anime/ harajuku/ samurai fantasy freaks than huge expanses of grass and frolicking kids. It was still worth the steep admission to raise money for Japan… and some serious people watching!

  5. Umm… that wasn’t this weekend. Or was Sunday totally different than Saturday?

Sorry. There was a big tent filling most of that space…. and it was far from “idyllic” — it was crazy crowded and the loads of Japanese ‘anime’ and ‘gothic’ teenagers (and sadly, older) were mostly creepy.
