Brooklyn Bridge Park administrators unveiled new renderings for the undeveloped stretch of Pier 6 at the Community Board 2 meeting on Monday night, Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported. The plans show a picturesque piece of parkland, with a big lawn, a large field of wildflowers, and plenty of trees.

But the most ambitious part of the design is a triangular wood-covered platform that rises gradually off a corner of the pier, extending slightly over the water’s edge. It rises to 17-and-a-half feet at its highest point, and beneath it, there’s a covered seating area that’s 3,000 square feet. Architects BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group designed the new park, and Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates planned the landscaping.

However, the plan still needs approval from the city’s Public Design Commission on September 9, after unanimous approval from the community board Monday night. And here comes the caveat: Park President Regina Myer said the park hasn’t secured funding yet for the viewing platform, which will run $5,000,000 to $7,000,000, according to the Eagle. But it does have money for the landscaping, which will cost $13,000,000 to $15,000,000. Click through to the jump to see more renderings.
