Today is the 127th anniversary of the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge, the first bridge to connect Manhattan to Brooklyn. Karl Junkersfeld has put together a photo montage for the Brooklyn Heights Blog documenting the history of the bridge, a good reminder of how monumental it was for Brooklyn residents. As the video quotes from a Brooklyn Heights storefront: “Babylon had her hanging gardens, Egypt her pyramids, Athens her Acropolis, Rome her Athenaeum; so Brooklyn has her bridge.”

  1. Great post EmilyNonko. I think I’ll mark May 24 on my calendar each year, as Brooklyn Bridge Day.

I see this was on another blog but wouldn’t have seen it there.
