Closing Bell: Another One Bites the Dust
Mother nature collided with machine this morning when this mature London Plane tree toppled over onto a sanitation truck on Seventh Avenue between Carroll and President Streets. It’s unclear if the tree fell from the weight of snow or whether the plow on the truck may have clipped the tree guard.

the revenge of the trees!
they are also known as london plane trees, btw
Biff – I’m just channeling one of your fellow Canadians…
about time someone/something slap those sanitation trucks. they’re the most inconsiderate drivers. they dont give a flying F who’s behind, etc. they just take up 2 lanes, double park pretty wide to collect garbage, take their sweet time, never yield to other drivers,…
hope the tree did more damage than the pic would indicate
Snark, are you sure you never wrote any of the Forbidden Broadway productions?
As always, classic rock has the answers:
There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas
The trouble with the maples
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade
There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream ‘Oppression!’
And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
‘The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light’
Now there’s no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe and saw
Deja vu
??Closing bell?? Where’d the day go?
the tree in the alleyway that my bedroom faces was very very droopy after this last snowstorm. i didnt even know a tree was there (it was coming in from someones back yard..) anyway, all i kept thinking when i was sleeping was the scene in Poltergeist where carol anne and her brother were sleepign and the tree in their backyard was looming into their window in a very scary way.
*rob*
Most people know them as “Sycamores.”
