After being held up for weeks, Clinton Park Cafe, the spot across from Pratt at 274 Hall, has opened. There was a good amount of seating space as well as a bar to sit at. After peeking inside we saw pretty basic cafe offerings, including a lot of to-go snacks. Anybody tried it yet?

  1. I haven’t been in yet but I’ve been by a few times and I finally picked up a menu.

I hope the quality of the food warrants the higher prices. I’m a big fan of John’s Donuts and the prices at Clinton Park are quite a step up from the ones at John’s.

    We’ll see.

  2. I’ve twice been to the inscrutably-named Clinton Park cafe. Once was on opening AM and yes, I endured the blaring assault of Gipsy Kings whilst dining. Food was good; maybe a hair (if you’ll pardon the expression) above standard diner chow. Service was scattered but nothing I wasn’t prepared for as they’d been open a scant few hours. Went back for a burger midweek and was delighted. Plus the music, while still questionable, was at a volume that allowed it to be easily ignored.

I loathe Mike’s- the true definition of a greasy spoon. I say that because their spoons are greasy. As are their knives, forks, and food. I’d never wait in that line- I’m stumped as to why anyone would.

  3. Firstly, I wouldn’t say CLinton Hill loves, Mikes.. I have been there once for breakfast and once for Dinner.. The breakfast is acceptable, standard diner food.. I think the shot of orange juice is a cute touch.. But, for dinner, the place is disgusting.

I walked by Clinton Park Cafe a week or two ago when they were having their opening party.. I popped in and met the owner and his wife.. Incredibly nice people. .They had a bunch of food set out.. You could eat whatever you wanted and they were giving away beer and soda. I tried a buffalo wing which taste pretty good and passed on the room temp mozzarella stick and lamb sticks..

So, we went last Saturday for breakfast.. I was nursing a minor hang over and I walked into to the place to find a packed restaurant.. On top of that they were blairing Gypsy Kings.. I had to leave.

Anyway, nice people at Clinton Park cafe with bad taste in music and Mike’s is average at best.

  4. I love Mikes and so does Clinton Hill. There are lines out the door every Sat and Sun, for good reason. The staff is respectful, the prices are great and the food delicious. That’s Mikes. Maybe I’ll try this new place sometime but I love Mikes.

  5. I walked by the other day. Looks nice. Is it no longer a full service diner though? It was never great before but the neighborhood sure could use a decent diner. Mike’s is ok. Andy’s or whatever it became is not great either.
