399 5th Avenue, between 6th and 7th Street in Park Slope, is getting a Chinese restaurant. A worker at the site said it should be open in a month or so. No word on if it will be a take out place or a nicer sit-down restaurant. The big question is whether Park Slope needs another Chinese restaurant. Well, does it? Update: @picklepetunia informs us that this is not really a new restaurant for the nabe, as Food Chow lost its lease across the street and is just relaunching here. GMAP

Every neighborhood has a need for a range of different food options, including unhealthy hole-in-the-wall joints that appeal to busy people on a budget. It’s not pretty, but not everyone wants or can afford seasonal new-American organic cuisine served on minimalist plates by a guy with a moustache or a girl with a tattoo.
As long as its not another noisy bar. It is to the point you cannot live on 5th Ave. above a store fron and have to deal with rude patrons of the bars below. What I would not give to go to their dwellings and make noise under their windows, have stinky smelling stuff going into their windows all hrs of the night. Not to mention all the bicyles attached to the meters for weeks on end. They should have to pay to park their bikes there. If i was one of the business owners i would have the lockls clipped and the bikes hauled off.
Oh just saw the update that it’s just the Chinese place from across the street moving in here.
Either way that sounds good because this storefront has looked like crap for a while, so it’ll be nice to have it cleaned up and functioning.
If the landlord kicked out this place across the street, let’s see how long it takes him/her to fill it with something else.
Crimsonson:
There’s a brand new Ramen Noodle shop opening up next to Bonnie’s Grill and Blue Ribbon sushi also…
Only problem is that there is a Chinese take out across the street from this location.
I hope it is at least is just not a regular take-out. Even a hole in the wall Chinatown type would be better. Authentic noodle shop (soy chicken and duck soup) would be 10x better.
As of now there’s only a handful of good Chinese restaurants and they are almost all on 7th ave. 5th avenue desperately needs a good Chinese food restaurant and hopefully its a higher end sit down one like Red Hot or Szechuan Delight.

The nabe doesn’t feel saturated with them by any means. Would be nice to have some higher end Chinese if possible, but clean / functional / efficient would work for me as well.
Couldn’t the Psychic above tell you whether or not it’s going to be good???
Yes.
If it’s good, sure.
