It’s official — the Blimpie on the corner of Lafayette and South Elliott in Fort Greene is closed for good. Its opening back in the summer of ’05 prompted a ton of controversy on Brownstoner, but the market has spoken, and now all the Blimpie-haters can rejoice because this fast food chain has been removed from their landmark district. But where’s the best place to get a sandwich in this neighborhood, anyway?

  1. I live in a fancy brownstone that I own and I love subway. Never actually went to that one though. As far as fast food goes they are better than most. And I think it’s funny to get pissed off about the looks of this chain when it obviously stood out like a sore thumb. I remember when I used to get pissed off about the shabby looking bodegas. Now they seem charming. So maybe I’m just nostalgic for crappy food too?

  2. Whoo hoo! Hopefully all the other chains will take notice.

And saying that you’re poor and cant afford to eat anywhere else in the nabe is BS. You can go across the street to bagel delight and get a sandwich there. Its still a “chain” but not nearly as horrible as blimpies.

  3. Boo hoo. I liked the place and the guys who worked there. I had a temp job with late hours and used to go there for a $5 sandwich on my way home.

Now, I have a full-time job and go to the Subway’s on Fulton near Clinton Ave.

People may turn their noses up at places like these, but they are welcome for the broke renters like myself who make the majority of FG/CH residents.
