Nixon Williams, one such commuter, complained to the News: “The train just keeps getting more expensive, and the service gets worse.” What else is new.

Very slow, very rough… yeah baby. 🙂
There is a bunch of track work that has been going on on the B/Q outbound track b/w Dekalb and 7th Ave. I took the B through that stretch last night and it felt like the train was coming off the tracks. Very slow, very rough.
It is because of the track complexity and criss-crossing near downtown Brooklyn…especially in the case of the Q and B, they have to be timed with the N and D as well since they share tracks over the bridge. So, often one will have to wait for the other due to delays and bunching.
The Q and B always seem to slow down between 7th Avenue and the bridge. The 2 and 3 are even worse around Hoyt and Nevins. Does anyone know why all these trains seem to go so slowly in Downtown Brooklyn?
I agree Tybur. I think the whole thing is terrific. I was still living in the Village when it first went up & would take visitors to it as part of the ‘tourist’ routine. I never saw it truly animated until there were links on line.
I do exaggerate… I have seen the fully animated art at least 5 times. Of course, I have been taking the Q-train for 2 years.
The rocket ship is pretty cool. But of course, most of the time, I’m just looking at still images as we’re waiting for god knows what on the Manhattan Bridge. Why don’t they stop ON the bridge, so we can at least enjoy the view….
Thanks Arkady! Mrs. Chicken was only off by a bit – it was created in 1980 (which if you’re really technical, is still in the 1970s).
I bet there are a lot of good uses for abandoned subway platforms around the city.
Okay, Mrs Chicken lied to me. Feathers will fly tonight….
The animated painting is called MassTransiscope. It was done during the Koch administration but was graffitied over for years & has recently been refurbished. You can see it at a good speed at:
